The decade's darkest

Blizzard's subjective list that compiles the best Black Metal albums of the past 10 years, let's see what the past decade offered to us in black arts.

1. Darkthrone - Circle The Wagons (2010)

The last really exciting Darkthrone album, the peak of their so-called 'Necro' crust/punk trilogy, no fillers just very well done black punk rock hymns.

2. Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (2010)

Really hard to describe in a few words such a well executed monster what actually Paracletus is. Definitely one of the best if not the best Black Metal album of the decade, a bubbling miasmatic black cauldron.

3. Revenge - Scum.Collapse.Eradication (2012)

Revenge build its own style through the years, technically they belong to the bestial genre, but they offer much more. This inhuman, sterile and rigid machinery reached their peak on Scum.Collapse.Eradication, just alone for the song Parasite Gallows (In Line)

4. Mgla - With Hearts Toward None (2012)

Next to Paracletus if an album deserves the best Black Metal record title of the negotiated decade that definitely is With Hearts Toward None. This emotionless, hopeless, negatory opus is not just a masterpiece but an influential record for the future generations.

5. Cultes Des Ghoules - Henbane... or Sonic Compendium of the Black Arts (2013)

Many bands tried to depict occultism and witchery in their music since the existing of the genre and sure quite a few succeeded but CdG is the band who perfected this, in form of their sinistrous sonic black art. The real black metal witchery.

6. Djevel - Besatt Av Maane Og Natt (2013)

Djevel's Besatt Av Maane Og Natt is pure Norwegian perfection from start to finish the epitome of keeping traditions alive.

7. Zemial - Nykta (2013)

A band that constantly changed over the years but always kept it roots and traditions. While undeniably traditional greek sounding, Nykta already shown a more progressive face of the entity called Zemial and as an addition the spirit of the grand master and undeniable inspiration Bathory, is still there in the album.

8. Mortuary Drape - Spiritual Independence (2014)

What the Italian Necromancers touched during their long time career turned into gold immediately (the many times criticised Buried In Time is also a decent record), and it's pretty much true to their last album so far, Spiritual Independence too. Occult Black Metal Magic, Hail M13D!

9. Abigor - Höllenzwang (Chronicles Of Perdition) (2018)

I bet ( in case if still there is some truth in this fucked up world) this album will be praised and regarded as a genre classic in the next few years. Why do I say that? Because I didn't hear anything like that before, it's far beyond the already known Abigor standards, the multi layered evil what is a trademark of the band is not just there, but raised to a higher level, after each listen one can discover new and new things, while in some parts Silenius' spitting sounds like a demonic twin of Tom Waits in his most overwhelming moments. Indeed one of the most evil records of all time.

10. Misthyrming - Algleymi (2019)

The Icelandic musicians' latest offer is indeed inspired by a certain Polish band, but they built their own world on the basics what they learned from their peers. Fantastic musicianship and a very organic sound describe this fantastic record. One of the highlights of the last year!

+ 1 honorary mention:

11. Cult Of Daath - Doomed By The Witch (2010)

It's not even a full-length just a demo tape, but I have to confess this is still one of my most listened items from the decade. A relentless and evil attack, pure Black Metal perfection. I truly miss this band. Highly recommended (along with their 2005 released second full length and opus magnum Slit Throats and Ritual Nights)
